Getting There

The drive from Weston Creek, through Tuggeranong, Gordon, Point Hut Crossing, along the Corin Dam Road to Woods Reserve is around 35km and can take about 35 mins.

Walk

This walk included some of number 2 in Graeme Barrow's Exploring Namadgi & Tidbinbilla: Day walks in Canberra's high country I did this walk solo.  It was my first attempt at linking a number of areas I'd walked in or visited.  This walk links the Corin Dam Road area to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.

I set out from the Woods Reserve car park up the track to the Corin Dam Road just before 8am.  Then up the road to the next corner where a fire trail takes off on the northern side of the road.  A bit of a steep and bare climb up the trail to the saddle.

Taking the trail heading north, I followed it to Gibraltar Rock.  The feature could not be missed as it loomed out of the trees. I reached it just before 9am and spent 15 minutes exploring, photographing and taking in the view.  Well worth the effort.

I then found the top of the well made Gibraltar trail and walked down into the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.  A patch of amazing Grass Trees had escaped the fire (one of my better pics, particularly with the strongly shaded sky).

I cut off a bit of the corner and wandered along the Tidbinbilla Ring Road.  There were signs everywhere saying that the area was closed due to bushfire damage, but there were none where I entered the Reserve at Gibraltar Peak!

Passed Church Rock seen from the road through the scrub to where the Devils Gap Fire Trail heads off on the left (western) side of the road.

Set off up this trail at 10am.  A bit of a climb, and pretty burnt and boring.  Over Devils Gap and picked up my outward track.  Back down to Woods Reserve, where Gibraltar Creek provided a lovely green and watery finale.

Distance: 11.9km  Time: 8.00am-11.00am with 15 minutes of stops.
