Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as an irregular Tuesday walk:

(Tuesday 1 April - South Booth Range and Boboyan Trig - L/R,X. From opposite the Hospital Hill lookout, head east down across Dry Creek and up onto the Booth Range. Follow the range S to Shanahans Mountain and back out to the Boboyan Road. Car shuffle required. If time and energy allow, walk the Yerrabi Walking Track in to Boboyan Hill for great views to the Bimberi Wilderness from the fabulous granite below the trig. Around 14km and 900m total climb. Demanding walking. Fit and experienced walkers only. Route not fully known to leader. Possible delays and diversions from the intended route. Map: Colinton. Limit of 8. Leader: John Evans – jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. Transport: ~$15. Further details at http://jevans.pcug.org.au.)

2 of us drove to the Hospital Hill Lookout. With one car we had various options, including half way down the Booth Range and cut across W to the Yerabi Walking Track or, as it turned out, just walk the whole lot.

Further Information

Walk suggested by Phillip G. Booth Range top looked relatively open when we touched it on 22 May 07.

Walk

A nice little wander on a pleasant day. The E leg to the Booth Range was through open forest, a little denser going down the E facing slope and a little more open going up the W facing slope. Turning S, the initial going was very attractive. However, the top of the range got very scrubby, with gum and wattle regrowth. Saw 5 wedge-tailed eagles circling together. Near Shanahans Mountain there were some open runs, then open timber. A bit of a road bash, at least broken by the Yerabi Track into Boboyan Trig and views out to the Bimberi Wilderness from the lookout area above the granite slabs.

Thanks Max for your company.

Distance: 22.4km  Climb: 900m.  Time: 8.20am - 4pm (call it 7.75hrs), with 40mins of stops.
