Track

Plenty of water about - the dam at the Namadgi Visitors Centre full, rivulets flowing and the gravel path up to the road badly washed. The same story W of the Naas Road - dams full, drainage lines flowing, even the track was flowing. When we got to the creek below Cypress Pine Lookout (I suddenly realised today that the lookout has been moved from the map marked position since the 2003 fires) we saw that it was torrenting down. A brief stop at Cypress Pine Lookout, then up and over the bridge to again appreciate all the water. A good climb to the track junction at the crest of the ridge, where we had a breath-catching break.

Then along the pleasant old vehicle track to meet the Mt Tennent fire trail. A slog up the road to the top.

We arrived to find that even the lower portion of the ladder to the Mt Tennent fire tower has been locked off now, so we retreated to the granite slabs to enjoy brunch. The cloud was just beginning to lift from Deadmans Hill and Booroomba Rocks.

Peter was kind enough to release me, as I had things to do back home, so I left at 10.15am and wandered back by myself. Stopped at the Tongs sheepyard site where the old AAWT alignment (now the Mt Tennent Walk) leaves the Mt Tennent Fire Trail, and at a delightful little dam just down off the side of the old vehicle track. The sun came out and it was quite muggy.

Great to see others out and about - must have run into 6 other parties enjoying the area.

Around 2hrs 40mins up and 1hr 30mins down.

Called in for a brief chat with Val at Tharwa. The Smiths Rd bridge over the Gudgenby River is out, so it might be some time before I can get back onto the N Clear Range.

Thanks Peter and fellow walkers. A useful wander.

Distance: 14.4km Climb: 800m. Time: 7.30 - 11.40am (4hrs 10mins), with 15mins of breaks.
Grading: L/E; M(9)
