Getting There

This walk was organised and led by Terence U as a CBC walk:

Saturday 22 January - Kambah Pool to Jews Corner - M. Start and finish at Kambah Pool and do an 'out-and-back' walk to a bend in the Murrumbidgee River known as Jews Corner. Total distance will be ~15km on undulating tracks or footpads, except in a couple of places where we will need to scramble across untracked shallow gullies.. Maps: Tuggeranong and Cotter Dam. Leader: Terence U.

9 of us met at the appointed place and time.

Further Information

The recent heavy rains have washed out a long section of the track immediately to the south of Casuarina Sands so the walk will not be as advertised. Instead we will start and finish at Kambah Pool and do an 'out-and-back' walk to a bend in the Murrumbidgee River known as Jews Corner. Total distance will be ~15km on undulating tracks or footpads, except in a couple of places where we will need to scramble across untracked shallow gullies. Gaiters or long trousers are probably a good idea if you want to keep the grass seeds from your socks. There may be an opportunity for a swim at Jews Corner. The meeting place is the top carpark at Kambah Pool reserve at 7.30am. To get there, turn into the Kambah Pool Road at Namatjira Drive/Sulwood Drive. Follow this road for ~5km to the entry to Kambah Pool Reserve. The top carpark is on the left ~100m after you enter the reserve [if you come to a T-intersection signposted to Kambah Beach (left) and Rock Pool (right) you have gone too far]. I expect that the trip will take about five hours, excluding any swims along the way, so bring snacks and lunch as well as sufficient drinking water. Forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy with isolated showers and a chance of a thunderstorm. Light southeast winds. Temperature 15-26degC. See you on Saturday Cheers Terence.

Track

The marker poles were buried in the tall grass, but we eventually joined the track and enjoyed a pleasant stroll along the Kambah Pool Walking Trail, high above the Murrumbidgee River. With a mini stop at New Station Creek, we ambled on to the gate in the fence above Jews Corner, arriving at 9.48am.

I had a commitment early in the afternoon, so I bolted down the old track to the river bank, dunked my hand in the water, yelled my good-byes to the rest of the party and began the return leg. Met up with Lorraine (who had about turned at the gate) and we got back to the cars at 11.20am. The track through the long grass had been mowed!

A nice Saturday morning ramble to start the day. Thanks Terence and friends.

Distance: 13.5km Climb: 200m. Time: 7.40 - 11.20am (3hrs 40mins).
Grading: M/E; E(7).
