Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as an irregular CBC Tuesday walk:

Tuesday 23 August - Border Markers on the Railway Line around Old Cooma Rd - M/E,X. Wander N and S of the Old Cooma Rd and Monaro H'way intersection looking for Percy Sheaffe's border markers along the railway line. Around 17km and 50m climb. Maps: Tuggeranong and Williamsdale. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. Transport: ~$5 per person.

4 of us drove down the Monaro Highway and parked on the side of the Old Cooma Road just over the railway line.

We wandered N along the railway line. A poor start, not finding K23, J23, I23, H23, G23, F23 nor E23. But a bingo with D23 down under the poplar trees with a nice rail bridge nearby. No 63 Mile. But we did find B23 and A23, the latter still holding its sighting nail in the top of the post. This pleased Eric. Back to our start point and morning tea.

We then wandered S along the line. No 64 Mile. We did find L23. No M23. Found N23. No O23. We then came onto a private area, the Parkroyalla property. We were able to see and photograph P23 from a distance. Could not see Q23 nor R23. On our return leg, we traversed the Monaro Highway side of the property and were able to see and photograph S23. No 65 Mile marker. Found T23. No U23, V23, W23, X23, 67 Mile nor Y23. However, the last post of the day, Z23, appeared where expected and we enjoyed a satisfying lunch nearby. Returned to the car.

Thanks Eric G, Henry H and Richard M for your kind company. The walk was very good for my sole (and my soul) - great to get back to it on a lovely day.
