Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as a private walk:

Saturday 22 October - Mt Gudgenby - L/R. Mt Gudgenby via its SE saddle. Around 18km and 750m climb. Map: Yaouk. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235.

4 of us today.

Further Information

This is a private walk. I need 1 more to make a party of 4 for safety who, preferably, can identify plants.

Here's a tale of a good mate - a guy posted to Australia from overseas has a mate with a birthday coming up who wants to walk in Namadgi. He contacts NPAACT and CH gives me a bell. I tick-tack with the prospective walker, check out their walking experiences, we find a mutually convenient date and an agreed objective and ... Bob's your uncle.

Due to forecast weather and other factors, changed to Yerrabi Track and a circuit around and over Yankee Hat North.

Nice to meet Thomas and Bakis.

Walk 1

We wander in the Yerrabi Track and down to the granite slabs to take in the view. 3.5km in 1hr, incl morning tea and a look around.

Walk 2

From the Yankee Hat car park, along the Yankee Hat Walking Track. Lots of kangas up the in trees before the art. Cute, with joeys. Up to the rock art and morning tea 2.

Back a bit to the big boulder and sidle up the hill to the crest of the spur leading up from the SE. A right turn and up the spur. A pretty scrubby climb, also a little granite and pick-up-sticks towards the top. Slow going in areas where all three are combined. 1hr 20mins for 1km. Probably the best way is to come up the gully to the saddle SW of Hankee Hat N and go up from there. Lunch at the top, where there's a geocache. We didn't quite make SH1447 because where we were looked higher.

Coming off the top, initially towards the saddle, the going was a lot easier. Began to bend away to the W and N. The N-facing slope of the hill a lot dryer and easier going. 1hr 20mins for 2.3km down to the end of the vehicle track near the Middle Creek shelter. Stepped across Middle Creek to view it, then back across and down the track to visit the Middle Creek cascades. Called by Jack Rustins hut site then, using the smiley face on the side of Hospital Hill as an aiming point, returned to the boardwalk and bridge across Bogong Creek and back to the car.

Called in at Rendezvous Creek on the way home.

A beer on the front verandah of the Tharwa General Store was most iconic.

Thanks Bakis S, Richard M and Thomas K.
