Getting There

This walk was organised and led by Phillip S as a CBC walk:

Saturday 14 April - Mt Foxlow - M/M. From the car park just off Woolcara Lane at the entrance to the Yanununbeyan Conservation Area, we will head off track until almost up Mt Foxlow where we will have lunch. Return initially along the fire trail then swing off track along a ridge through attractive light forest to cars. Short car shuffle, about 13 km, 600 m aggregate climb, 5 hours actual walking. Map: Captains Flat, Leader: Phillip S. Transport: $16.

24 of us met in Queanbeyan and drove via the Captains Flat Rd and Woolcara Lane into the Yanununbeyan Conservation Area.

A short car shuttle. We broke into 2 parties, with Stan M leading the other.

Headed off E-ish, crossed Primrose Valley Creek. Gained a nice open forested spur which took us to 1100m, then NE to McFarlanes Fire Trail. We crossed it and continued another 1km to the Foxlow Fire Trail, which took us to Mt Foxlow for lunch. Views N to Lake George. Good mobile reception all the way - I got calls for another 6 starters for tomorrow's little urban fringe wander, thanks to Tim the Yowie Man's feature in the Canberra Times.

One tired member and one facially scarred member from a fall in the other party changed our trusty leader's plans a little.

We returned via McFarlanes Fire Trail to the crossing point, picked up another 3 walkers, S for ~2.4km and down another handy, open forest, spur to the cars on Woolcara Lane. A slow trip back.

A couple of us wandered back down the road until all walkers had been ferried to the start point and Q drove back to pick us up.

Thanks Phillip - a logistical nightmare handled exceedingly well. A nice walk in an area I'd not visited. Thanks all for company. A very healthy CBC with so many walking on a nice Autumn day.

Distance: 14.8km Climb: 600m. Time: 9.05am - 4.10pm (7hrs 5mins), with 45mins of stops
