Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as a CBC walk:

Saturday 9 June - a repeat of ... Indigenous and European Sites - a day in the bush - M/E-M. Walk the grasslands of the Gudgenby valley to see indigenous rock art, remains of European settlement and views to the mountains at the heart of Namadgi National Park. Limit: 10. Around 11km and 200m climb. Maps: Rendezvous Creek and Yaouk. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, 0417 436 877. Transport: drive yourself to Namadgi Visitors Centre, then car pool.

13 of us gathered at the Namadgi Visitors Centre and drove in 3 cars to the Yankee Hat car park.

Further Information

13 people enjoyed the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival event on 21 Apr 12. Several more wanted to book, so let's do it for them.

Track overview Track 1 Track 2

3 walks. The first to the Yankee Hat rock art, then higher in the tree line than last time as as we didn't get our feet as wet in the soaks across towards Middle Creek. Down to the cascades. More water flowing than 21 Apr 12. On to Jack Rustin's hut site near the big Candlebark, then back aiming on the smiley face (although trying to keep to the crests on the little ridges and spurs) to the cars. Lunch. A wander up to the Forestry Hut. Plenty of other walkers about - good to see.

A second little walk in to the Hudson ready-cut cottage and across the footbridge to view Gudgenby Homestead.

A third little walk in the Rendezvous Creek Track. The new bit (don't know where it's going) has had a bit more work. Back to the cars and a look at the special site nearby.

Back to the Tharwa general store for a drink and chat.

Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. My home arrangements seemed to have worked out ok.

Thanks for joining in - David G and Jenny G, David O, Eileen McN and Rory and Owen P, Lyn F, Mark H, Nicole C, Stephen and Lisa M, Steven S.

Distance:12km Climb:200m. Time: 9.50am - 2.45pm (call it 5hrs), with 55mins of stops and a bit of driving between walks.
