Getting There

This walk was organised and enjoyed by me as a private walk:

Saturday 21 July - Various track walks - Square Rock and Orroral Lookout; Gibraltar Falls; Rendezvous Creek Loop; Orroral Valley Heritage Trail - L/E,ptX. A couple of little walks to regain my fitness after the flu. Around 20km. Maps: Corin Dam, Tidbinbilla, Rendezvous Creek.

Walk 1 - Square Rock Walking Track and Orroral Valley Lookout

Always enjoyable. Great track maintenance. Great view. I'd bring my Mother-in-Law here (except she's 94). A frosty Smokers Flat and a little pile of snow at the Orroral Valley lookout.

Distance: 9.5km Climb:300m. Time: 2hrs

Walk 2 - Gibraltar Falls

I remember how black and bare this place was after 2003 fires. Beautiful now. New stairway on a section of the track to the falls (Ben S mentioned this at last week's CBC briefing). Plenty of water cascading over. Had a short poke around upstream a little way from the picnic area. A weir and some sort of associated infrastructure.

Distance: 0.5km Climb:10m. Time: 15mins

Walk 3 - Rendezvous Creek (loop) Track

Ben also mentioned the completion of this little loop and the placement of a second bridge. A pretty loop, contrasting wooded hillside and open grassed areas. Fabulous pic of the creek on the signage (grin).

Distance: 2.7km Climb:20m. Time: 40mins

Walk 4 - Orroral Valley Heritage Trail

Continuing maintenance work being done on the Orroral Campground. The Heritage Trail starts from the campsite access ring road down closest to the river, marked 'Exit only'. A pleasant secttion alongside the river, then the trail climbs back up to an intersection point and heads NW. Lovely views as it breaks out into the cleared Orroral River wide valley. Up past all the various bits of signage. Orroral Homestead, pretty as a picture, made a pretty picture. Up to the tracking station site and a chat with a Ranger. No one about to ask for a lift back, so wandered back.

Distance: 11.8km Climb:20m. Time: 2hrs 25mins (including 15mins of breaks).

Total Distance: 24.6km Climb:350m.
Grading: L/E,ptX; M(9)
