Long legs on Mt Taylor

Maps: Canberra, Tuggeranong 1:25000

Walk Description

This walk was organised and led by Nathan H as a CBC walk:

Saturday 3 August: BT5 - Trig bagging for the time poor - M/E. A chance to get a walk in and bag a couple of trigs, all before lunchtime. Starting off at 8am on the southside of Mount Taylor on Sulwood Drive, we'll head up a steep track to the Mount Taylor trig. From there, walk down the northside side and under Hindmarsh Drive to visit the trig at Oakey Hill. We then backtrack to Mount Taylor, head back to the summit on a different track (unfortunately the trig only counts once) and back to the cars. About 10km all up with about 350 metres of climbing. Map: Canberra, Tuggeranong 1:25000 Leader: Nathan H. Transport: drive yourself but please book as usual.

10 of us met at the popular Sulwood Drive verge on the W side of Mt Taylor.

Track Notes

Cold to start, especially in the breeze without gloves and beanie. Warm at the top of the SW track, but then exposed to the wind again. Every man and woman and their dog on Mt Taylor this morning. We inscribed a perfect X on Taylor - up from the SW and down to the NE and, on our return, up from the NW and down to the SE. Lovely views to the western hills. A pleasant stroll with good company.

Grading: M/E; M(8)
