Walk Description

This event was organised and led by Jenny and Rob H as part of their CBC Navigation Course:

Saturday 17 August: Navigation Refresher #3 - M/M. A day in the hills at the back of Kambah following a route and position fixing. Map: Tuggeranong. Leaders: Jenny & Rob H. Transport: N/A.

8 of us met at the appointed time and place.

Track Notes

A real pleasure to ramble for a day without a GPS in sight. A couple of spots of rain as we left, but the day cleared into a beautiful sunny late Winter's day. The wind did come up a bit in the afternoon.

A great little round, navigating from point to point using map and compass and using land-form and other features to keep us on track. Very pleased to run into 12 or so Eternity church youth praying in the saddle between the NW knoll of Urambi Hills and the dead Kurrajong knoll. Even convinced our living legend leaders to allow us to go on to TG26 on the SE knoll to bag the trig! A line from there towards Red Rocks Gorge took us to the Murrumbidgee River, then a loop back to a pleasant beach/rocky area on the river for lunch.

Evidence of Canberra Centenary Trail work along the Kambah Pool to Pine Island Walking Track - realigning the track higher in places around side creeks and removing steps to make it suitable for bike riders.

A suitable reward for our hard work was a cuppa and Jenny's banana muffins back at the start.
