Blue Gum Hill over Blue Gum Creek

Tuesday 16 February: Ridge West of Bushfold Flats, Namadgi National Park – L/R/ part X. Track Notes

Excellent weather for an excellent walk.

Down the AAWT for 2.6km, then a steep 240 vertical metre climb up the southern flank of the ridge. The going was generally not too bad, some nice rocks. A left turn at 1200m and, following a leader who was infected with scrub glee, we finally made morning tea by a crazy cairn on top of the knoll. Nice views – check out the video.

We then skirted the west and north-west top of the ridge. Some excellent views down into Blue Gum Creek and up to Blue Gum Hill. Some tight scrub was a penalty for the fine views. Well worth it!

Coming down the northern spur of the ridge the going eased and we popped out at the Blue Gum Creek forward for lunch. A lovely spot.

6.3km and 3hrs 50mins of walking along the ridge. A little quicker on the homeward leg – 6.9km in 1hr 25mins.

I called in at the North Bushfold Shearing shed site (Read’s 1 stand shed), and at Duncan McKeahnie’s 1884 Hut site. Eric chased me all the way back.

Great walk; I’ve done nearby before with Max, but can’t find it. Thanks Ian for putting it on. Nice wheels! Thanks everyone.
