Morning tea beside Micalong Creek footbridge
Thursday 2 November: Micalong Creek – M/M. We will follow the Hume and Hovell Track downstream along Micalong Creek. We have lunch at Micalong Creek campsite then return. Along the way we will admire numerous cascades and hopefully some wildflowers. Total distance is about 12 km all on track or footpad. Total climb is about 330 metres. Maps: Bobbys Plains/Couragago. Leader: Phillip S. Transport: $20 pp, Booking: Please book by email before 2 pm Tuesday 31 October. Limit: May depend on available transport but a maximum of 8. The distance to the start of the walk is about 80 km along the Brindabella Road which has a long section of rough unsealed road with potholes and corrugations.
… or, There and Back Again by Phillip (‘Bilbo Baggins’) S. A beaut cameo walk.
Great to have an initial CBC Thursday Walk which was well supported. Great idea, Phillip. Hope to see more!

Lovely to be picked up at my front door (thank you Mike) and dropped back (thank you Mark). A drive of around 1hr 20mins via Brindabella Road. We stopped just before the road bridge over Micalong Creek to regroup and there was time for me to trot 100m to find and log geocache GCY3BG BUCCLEUCH. We then turned north and drove along Yankee Ned Road, past the Hume and Hovell Track Bossawa Campsite (now renamed here the Barrios Campsite), to the spot where the H&H Track leaves the main fire trail.
We then enjoyed an absolutely delightful stroll down along Micalong Creek to the Micalong Creek Campsite and return. An abundance of bird life and calls, and trackside flowers in profusion. Easy walking on the Hume and Hovell Track, although there are lots of blackberries and weeds. The two bridges, over Micalong Creek and Yankee Ned Creek are in need of refurbishment, but the long supports are still weight-bearing.
We stopped beside the Micalong Creek footbridge for morning tea beside the gurgling creek, and at the Micalong Creek Campsite for lunch #1.
On our return, Phillip (always the gentleman) suggested we call in at the Barrios Campsite for lunch #2. A find and log of geocache GC5ADCF BOSAWA on Hume and Hovell right beside where the cars pulled up.
I enjoyed a sleep on the way home.
Thanks Phillip and all. A lovely little walk. I do hope Thursday Walks take off!
