Track Notes

An overcast sky and the hills with their heads in the clouds as we arrived at the Yankee Hat car park. But the day later cleared to a blue sky perfect autumn day.

Away along the Yankee Hat Walking Track. Left it around 1km from the rock art and headed north and north-west across the grasslands into the mouth of Middle Creek. Crossed the creek at the Middle Creek indigenous shelter and had a brief stop there.

Then generally up the true left side of the main arm of Middle Creek, a fair way up from the water. Stopped for morning tea at 10.20am. Crossed the creek at a far better place than where we crossed below the geocache on 9 Dec 14. Continued up the true right side for a couple of hundred metres. A quick find of GC26Y22 Dinner Rock by Marmaduke Rothschild and he logged on, plus Betty Rothschild.

We stayed on the same side of the creek for the return leg. More open going than on the other (usual for me going to Mt Namadgi) side. We skirted a little granite just SE of SH1107 where the contours drop. Someone (mentioning no names) fell in the south arm of Middle Creek 😀 . A little further on, a nice spot for lunch.

I took the opportunity during lunch to go back a little way to sus out the confluence of the two arms of Middle Creek.

We walked out the old vehicle track, eventually bent away across the grasslands to the SE and pretty soon picked up a new vehicle route. Easy walking. It crossed the Yankee Hat Walking Track in sight of the big boulder and continued on to join fire trails. These we followed SW to the Bogong Creek causeway, then up to Frank and Jacks Hut. A quick find of GC66C1P Frank’s Flat.

Out to the Old Boboyan Road and a tromp back to the car. A quick detour up to the Foresters Hut to bag geocache GC62PY4 Forestry Fireplace.

A pleasant trip on a pleasant day with pleasant company. Thanks Roger for putting it on in the best of the Easter weather. Thanks for driving Phillip. I got a new battery in the Tribute courtesy of the NRMA a couple of hours after arriving home.
