Views from Mt Taylor

Wednesday 8 January: 360 Degree Views from Mount Taylor – S/E. This is an easy walk which is approximately 8 kms on footpaths and fire trails with less than 300 metres climbing, and should take approximately 2 and a half hours of walking. We can follow footpaths/fire trails to ascend Mount Taylor from the south to take in great views to the south and west. After pausing at the summit to take in views to the north and east, we can descend back to the Chifley fire trail and make our way back to the start for some late morning coffee and cakes at the fine cafe/restaurant at Chifley shops. We should all be back home for lunch having finished the walk. Meet at Chifley shops at Chifley Place off Eggleston Circuit at 8:15 AM for an 8:30 start. There are car parking spaces at the side and rear of the shops – there are no time restrictions on parking in these spaces, but there are time restrictions on the parking spaces immediately in front to the shops. Transport costs should not apply as we do not drive anywhere after the meeting place. This walk would rate an S/E grade in Canberra Bushwalking Club. It will be a nice easy walk after the excesses of Christmas. Maps are Canberra 1:25000 and Tuggeranong 1:25000. Leader is Tim W (a CBC member). Regular Wednesday walkers are as always welcome on this trip. If there are any visitors, can they please contact me prior to coming on the walk so I can discuss their abilities, answer any questions etc. Tim.

Track Notes

Pardon me if I gush, but I met a living legend walker who, although we’d not met before today, has had a huge influence on my walking from afar. See if you can guess who he is – Mt Herlt (a local CBC name) is named after him!

I had a little bike ride over to and back from the meet place.

A very pleasant amble around, up and over Mt Taylor. Chats with old and new friends. Always a nice view and a reminder that we are so fortunate to live in Canberra.

Thanks Tim.
