Feeder to Little Nadgigomar Creek

Tuesday 12 August: Nadgigomar Nature Reserve – L/M. The walk is in the eastern section of Nadgigomar Nature Reserve 35 km north of Braidwood. The terrain is flat or slightly undulating, with some low hills on the western boundary. There are extensive, mature, dry sclerophyll woodlands and forests and some interesting swamps that we shall visit. A fire has recently burned through some of the reserve and our route takes us in and out of burnt areas. The route is all off-track with only light scrub, except near the swamps. Emergency contact details must be registered/provided to book. Bookings by Friday 8th. Distance: 25 km with ∼300 metres of ascent Map: Oallen. Leader: Ian W. Transport: 225 km return. $83 per car. Limit: 8.

8 of us drove in 2 cars via Bungendore, Tarago, Lumley Rd, Cullulla Rd, Sandy Point Rd, Oallen Ford Rd, to park on Mogo Rd at the entrance to the Nadgigomar Nature Reserve.

Summary

Distance: 23.8km | Climb: 240m | Time: 8.40am-4.45pm (8hrs 5mins), with 50 mins of breaks | Grading: L/M; M(11)

Track Notes

A new area for most of us.

Totally unremarkable in terms of topography – pretty much flat. The area we walked prior to lunch and the end of the afternoon leg was through burnt country. Yet much of the scenery was quite remarkable – the burnt dry sclerophyll woodland, the dry and sandy soil, the dry ‘swamps’ and creek lines, the unburnt area, colour in the trees, the regrowth from small beginnings.

Ian even threw in a bore – and some of the party spotted a boar (or a sow). A few kangas, few birds.

The track maps and the photos can do the talking on this one.

There is excellent information on the area we walked (the East Nadgigomar Section) in the Management Plan here.

Thanks Ian. A remarkable area when all summed up. You continue to find some beauties for us!

Party
