My first experience of Stan's Thursday evening walks. I'd read of them often, but this was the first opportunity to attend and in an area I'd not previously visited.
11 of us headed up the road from the gate, following Kowen Road to the E. Views back over urban areas to the Tidbinbillas (see pic 1). We then picked up the signposted fire trail heading S, stopping to appreciate a scorpion taking an evening stroll (see pic 2). Down to the Blue Tiles recreation area on the Molonglo (see pic 3) (3.8km and 1.5hrs to here).
Our return was via some different fire trails in a general figure-of-eight, a little longer than the outward leg. Very pleasant walking in the cool of the evening.
An excellent little wander with old and new walking companions. I continue to admire Stan for all the effort he puts in and for the opportunity he gives for so many to enjoy walking and good company. Thanks Stan and all.
Distance: 9.7km Climb: 250m. Time: 6.30pm-9.00pm (2.5hrs), with 10mins of breaks.
