Further Information

Saturday 26 April 2008 M/M - Booroomba Rocks/Blue Gum Hill Lookout - From Booroomba car park we wander along the AAWT and down to Blue Gum Creek. Then we climb up a granite hill with open views to the faces of Booroomba Rocks and Blue Gum Hill. Note: Change of route from that published in IT. Maps: Corin Dam, Williamsdale 1:25000

Walk

We wandered down the AAWT for 1.8km, then struck off to the NW across scrubby drainage lines and up to the saddle between the NE end of Booroomba Rocks and the 1200+m feature to the W of Bushfold Flats. Very pleasant going down from the saddle towards the elbow in Blue Gum Creek, with views up to our left of Booroomba Rocks (see pic 1). Down to Blue Gum Creek for a lovely morning tea site (see pic 2).

We next climbed generally NW towards the 1300m feature above Blue Gum Creek with excellent views behind to Booroomba Rocks and Blue Gum Hill to our west (see pic 3). Some scrubby climbs in places, but it was alright down at the back of the line as long as the walkers in front broke the trail nicely! We stopped for lunch on a granite lookout just shy of the top.

Away after lunch along the scrubby ridge top, then down the spur to the E with a sharp little drop down into Blue Gum Creek and 200m to the ford where Georges Creek joins.

All over red rover here, except the 6.5km up the fire trail to the N end of Bushfold Flat and S on the AAWT then W back to the car park. First time I'd been on this realigned part of the AAWT. Quentin M says the hut near SH989 at the S end of Bushfold Flats has been rebuilt - must have a squiz.

A very pleasant wander on a beaut day, effortlessly led by Chris L and great company, both old and new.

Distance: 14.1km  Climb: 700m.  Time: 8.20am - 5.00pm (call it 8.75hrs) with 1hr of stops.
Grading: L,M-R; M(11)
