Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as a private family walk.

Walk

With my London based daughter and her English boyfriend (and the San Diego Evans) here for Christmas, it was too good an opportunity to miss to show Matt a little taste of the Aussie bush. We nearly ran over the first kangaroo he'd seen out of captivity. With a 31°C day forecast, we left as early as we could get organised after a lazy Christmas Day and some late night kulture in the form of The Castle.

Matt's a tri-athlete, but Caitlin arrived with a cold and asthma, so we dawdled up the track. At least we found out how to keep her quiet for 45 minutes as she gasped and wheezed to the top - she was unable to utter many words. The bush is looking magnificent after the recent rain - there was even running water in the little gully the road crosses on the way in. A few flowers still about.

We all admired the view from the top (see pics 1 and 2). We wandered NE along the cliff top to just near SH1353 for further panoramic views (see pic 3). The footpad along the cliff top is closing in - the shrub regrowth is very vigorous. Our return route took us back along the top, but below the cliff line. We were rewarded with the sight of a black cockatoo quite close in the scrub. This low level footpad meets the main inward track opposite where the rescue stretcher lies in the bush.

We had met one party on the inward leg. Three more as we wandered back.

Called in at the Namadgi Visitors Centre. Picked up a printed copy of the Get out there! brochure (see here for web copy). Very well done, a marvellous guide for things to do 'out there'.

Distance: 2.7km  Climb: 200m.  Time: 9.35-11.15am (call it 1.75hrs)
Grading: S/E; E(4)
