This walk was organised and led by me as a private walk:

Sunday arvo 12 Jul - Parkway Ramble - Walk for Uganda training - Square Rock. Bring some arvo tea to share whilst we admire the view from Square Rock. Benched walking track all the way. Great views. Leave from Parkway 1pm after morning service.

10 of us drove in 3 cars to the Smokers Gap car park. It was full, so we parked on the side of the road.

Be ready to leave from Parkway, appropriately attired and equipped, at 1.00pm after morning service. We will need to have eaten lunch by then (maybe bring some sambos and enjoy them after morning service with a good coffee). But bring some arvo tea to share at Square Rock. This is a 9km walk climbing 250m on benched walking track. I last did it with James L from church, with son Andrew in a pusher, on 13 June 2007. It took us 3.5hrs, so we'll certainly do it quicker.

Fairly windy, but no threatened showers. Great to meet lots of folk walking back as we wandered up. Plenty of conversation on rambles such as this. Square Rock was new for some; a return visit for others. After admiring the view (see pic 2) we dropped back, looking for a spot in the sun and out of the breeze. Everyone brought something to share and there was more than enough coffee and hot water to go round. We tried a little excursion to go down and round the lower side of the granite tors - maybe next time we'll complete it.

On the way back we went out to the Orroral Valley Lookout. It is at last, with some dead timber in front having been removed to provide a more panoramic view down the valley (see pic 3).

Back to the cars. Everyone said they enjoyed the walk.

Distance: 9.1km  Climb: 250m.  Time: 1.40 - 4.45pm (call it 3hrs), with 30mins of stops.
