Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as a combined CBC and Parkway church ramble:

Sunday arvo 26 September - Sunday arvo ramble Kambah Pool to Tuggeranong - S/E. A combined CBC and Parkway church ramble. Wander the Murrumbidgee River Corridor from Kambah Pool to Tuggeranong behind Urambi Hills. Bring arvo tea to share. Car shuffle required. Around 7km and 100m climb. Map: Tuggeranong. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. Please book with me, but make your own way to the meeting point. Transport: Meet at Parkway church, cnr Sulwood Dr and Tuggeranong Parkway, at 1.00pm and we'll car pool from there ~$2 per person.

12 of us walked, once the worst car shuffle in the world had been sorted out. Never again will I try to organise one.

Further Information

We'll come up the Tuggeranong stone wall, where we finished on 27 June. See an ACT Government brochure here.

Best RSVP I've ever received: 'Sorry John but we have been wading through a semi typhoon today in Hong Kong and expect to have chilly shoes in north Scotland by Sunday (well maybe early Monday morning in Canberra time). Helen asked me to add we walked 15,000 steps today according to her pedometer. Enjoy the walk and best wishes from John and Helen.'

Walk

Track

A bad hair day start, as I didn't make my logistics crystal clear and we ended up with 4 cars but 6 people down at Tuggeranong and needed 2 cars to get us back to the start at Kambah Pool. That, of course, meant that we'd finish the walk with 12 people (well, 11, as Llewellyn was travelling independently by push bike) at 2 cars. A short wait for those who went down to the nude bathing pool (just kidding) and we were finally underway by 1.50pm. Met up with Llewellyn who'd walked up from Pine Island.

A very pleasant ramble along the benched track. Wattle perhaps a week past its best, but still very picturesque. The Murrumbidgee River was surging and looked marvellous from the lookout.

A pause for arvo tea just past Red Rocks Gorge. Everyone except me, it seemed, entered into the spirit of "bring arvo tea to share" and wonderful goodies - both healthy and fattening - were generously shared. I didn't need to get my muesli bars and water out. Everyone is invited on the next ramble!

We continued on across the back of Urambi Hills, mucked about a bit to finally find the bridge crossing Tuggeranong Creek and came up to the end of the stone wall near Athlon Drive. This time wandered S down the fence line to a gate to elegantly gain access to Athlon Drive. Back up to the traffic lights to cross safely. Around 2hrs 20mins (including 15mins for arvo tea) for the 7.1km.

Nicole saved my bacon, volunteering to stay at Tuggers till hubby Richard returned from transporting 4 back to the start. Stas and Sveta took 2 back. Llewellyn headed off to Pine Island to be reunited with his bike. That just left me to pay for my sins by trotting back to the start (6.6km in 1hr 10mins).

It was great to walk with regular friends, to meet up again with old ones and to meet new ones. Many thanks for your company and excellent goodies Alison, Brooke, Douglas, Llewellyn, Peter and Margaret, Richard and Nicole, Stas and Sveta and Tory.

Distance: 7.1km Climb: 100m. Time: 1.50 - 4.10pm (2hrs 20mins), including 15mins of breaks.
Grading: S/E; E(5)
