Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as the first of an irregular Parkway Sunday after-service walk:

(Hello everyone I thought it might be nice to enjoy a little ramble after church this coming Sunday. Perhaps you are interested, or could pass this note on to others. Where: Parkway carpark. When: Sunday 14 October, 30 minutes after church finishes. What: A gentle ramble up the back of the block, across Sulwood Drive and to the edge of Chapman, climb up to the Arawang trig for views, down to the horse yards, across Sulwood Drive and so back. 3.5km along and 125m up. It should take 2 hours max. Suitable for young and old - anyone who can plod up a bit of a hill.
How: Bring water, closed toe shoes (runners fine), hat, sunscreen and wear clothing suitable for the day (you might like to bring something old and change after church). Bring a light lunch to enjoy at the top whilst taking in the view. Carry it in a pack to keep your hands free.
Contact me if you need more details. If this works, there are heaps of places we could subsequently go - Mt Taylor, William Farrer's grave, 'Calvary' ruin, de Sallis cemetery at Tharwa ....).

Walk

For physical training is of some value ... (1 Timothy 4:8)

A biblical group of 12 (and a dog) met for the inaugural Parkway Ramble (certainly not the first church walk, as Stan L set the pace in 2001). We were a little late to get going, as we waited for three Guest Lounge welcomers who were practising the rest of 1 Tim 4:8 (... but godliness has value for all things).

The happy group wandered up through the back of the Parkway block, past the 'gravel and waste bitumen dump' marked on the map but now a little waterhole, and up to meet Sulwood Drive. We skipped across the road and headed for the gate at the edge of Chapman. The shorter, steeper climb was hopefully a wiser choice than the longer, less severe slope. A few puffs and groans and we were at the top.

A lovely view over the still green Spring suburbs to the east and the horse paddocks and hills and ranges to the west. A blue sky day, warm but with a breeze. A bite of lunch as we enjoyed the view.

We next headed south along the ridge and down the more gentle slope to meet the ring track. Ducked through a gate or two, across the paddock to Sulwood Drive. Across, down and so back to the church block.

Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for your encouragement - Allan and Pam, Harvey and Aileen, Johnny and Marianne, Neralie, Stan and Isobel, Sarah and Sean.

Distance: 3.2km  Climb: 125m.  Time: 1.15-2.30pm (1.25hrs), with 20mins of stops.
Grading: S/E; E(4)
