Getting There

This walk was organised and led by Peter W as an irregular Tuesday walk:

(Tuesday 8 April 2008 - Harrys Spur to Goodradigbee River. Starting at Mount Ginini Summit we go down the overgrown Harrys Spur Firetrail, then through 1 km of scrub to the big waterfall on the river for lunch. Back the same way. Climb 900 m. Forest varied, river beautiful, a good workout. Cars 140 km ($14). Maps Corin Dam, Peppercorn. Leader Peter W. Leaving about 7:30 Canberra forecast- Possible late showers 8-20 Sydney forecast- A few showers 16-21 easterly wind I think there is going to be onshore winds and showers over Clyde mountain so the Sugarloaf Creek walk would not be nice, and Thursday also is not good. Weather should be good on the west side of the Brindabellas. Walkers interested in Harrys Spur walk should email me, or phone me Frid, Mon [leave phone message Sat, Sun].).

7 of us left town. A real pleasure to be driven. Max and I wonder why we can't attract 7 starters!

Further Information

A repeat of 18 Nov 06, but well worth it.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: On 28 Oct 13 PW advised "that a footpad still exists following the route of the old fire trail down Harrys Spur, from Mount Ginini to the Goodradigbee River. A relatively slow party takes about 4 hours to the river. It is not fantastic, but a reasonable path with a few trees over it. Do take gloves, trousers and wear glasses."

Walk

Away by just after 9am, down the old cleared ski run from Mt Ginini. Another bag of this hill - I've walked to it, driven to it and now been driven to it. The track soon peters out from vehicle to footpad. We had a practice little down and up, then headed through the 2m regrowth ON Harrys Spur fire trail (see pic 1) and down to find morning tea.

West 350m down the spur to hit the Goodradigbee River a few tens of metres downstream of the falls. Open forest and relatively easy walking till the last couple of hundred metres, where is got quite steep and the vegetation closed in. We wandered up to the downstream end of the pool below the falls and had lunch (see pic 2).

A steep pinch up the side of the falls took us to the top, then up the spur (this part more open than the entry route) and up and up and up, to come out at our morning tea spot. Then the slog back up the fire trail to the welcome cleared ski run leading to the cars (see pic 3).

A great destination. Thanks, Peter, for organising us and leadership. Thanks to David, Madeleine, Max, Philip, Steve for your company.

Distance: 14.2km  Climb: 1050m.  Time: 9.05am - 4.15pm (call it 7.25hrs) with 45mins of stops.
Grading: L/M-R; H(12)
